I bought an orchid today, a “Phal. luedde-violacea” from an internet friend named Wendy who was clearing out some of her collection to make room for a new interest in paphiopedilums (slipper orchids). It’s a nice sized and healthy plant with a keiki, so I got two for the price of one. I gather it’s a naturally occuring hybrid in the wild (phal. lueddemanniana x violacea), so it’s considered a species. I’ve never seen the blooms before, here’s a picture I found on the web. This is a description, thanks to http://www.phalaenopsis.net:
“Eight flowers and eight buds on four inflorescences; all flower parts a violet magenta; side lobes bright yellow; column violet, anther cap with a white pictoee; substance excellent; texture waxy; very pleasant lemon citrus fragrance.”
